कई दशकों से भारत में बीबीसी के संवाददाता रहे मार्क टुली ने अपनी पुस्तक "नो फुल स्टॉप इन इंडिया" में मोदी शासन में हो रहे बदलावों के बारे में कुछ यूं लिखा हैं-
भारत में बदलाव बहुत आसानी से नहीं होते, उनमें बहुत अधिक समय लगता है।
बदलाव अमूमन धीरे धीरे और कष्टप्रद होते हैं ।
मेरा मानना है कि इसे हम एक नई पद्धति का जन्म कह सकते है जो औपनिवेशिक काल के पुराने ढर्रे से बिलकुल अलग प्रकार की है
लेकिन यह उदात्त भारतीय परम्परा है; जिसे पुरातन का आधुनिक रूप कहा जा सकता है, जो '' अन्य की तरह आधुनिकता की नकली नकल नहीं है ''।
वह आगे कहते हैं कि -
- "अपनी सभी महान उपलब्धियों के साथ, नेहरू वंश एक बरगद के पेड़ की तरह खड़ा है, जिसकी जड़ें दीमक ने खोखली कर दी हैं | किन्तु भारत के लोग और संस्थान अब तक उसकी छाया में ही रहे है, और जैसा कि सभी भारतीय जानते हैं कि बरगद के पेड़ के नीचे कुछ भी विकसित नहीं होता"।
जैसा कि मार्क ने कहा, परिवर्तन धीरे धीरे और कष्टप्रद होगा, इसलिए जो इसे पढ़ पाने में असमर्थ है और अपनी धारणा के आधार पर निर्णय लेते है, वे काफी समय तक इन परिवर्तनों को नहीं देख पायेंगे या ऐसा दिखावा करेंगे जैसे कि कुछ भी नहीं बदल रहा है।
जिस तरह रेलवे, पावर सेक्टर, डिफेंस प्रोडक्शन और गवर्नेंस में बदलाव आ रहे हैं, उसे लेकर पुरानी ताकतों की नाराजगी बताती है कि बदलाव की प्रक्रिया धीरे-धीरे किन्तु द्रढता से शुरू हो चुकी है, और स्वाभाविक ही यह परिवर्तन पुराने बरगद को पीड़ा दायक है ।
हम इस दीमक लगे हुए पुराने बरगद के पेड़ की क्षमताओं को कम न आंके, जो अभी भी किसी को भी पनपने से रोकने की हर संभव कोशिश करेगा | और कुछ नहीं कर पायेगा, तो कमसेकम गिरते गिरते भी अपने नीचे की मिट्टी को तो पलट ही देगा ।
अभी और कुछ सालों तक हम कुछ और दादरी देखेंगे, कन्हैया और ओवैसी जैसों की चीखपुकार और क्रियाकलाप के गवाह बनेंगे, लेकिन अंत में अगर समाज शांति से परिपक्व ढंग से सतत कार्य करता है, तो परिवर्तन स्थाई हो जाएगा और पुरानी ताकतों का स्वाभाविक अंत हो जाएगा।
मैं एक बात और जोड़ना चाहता हूँ - - हर दिन मोदी सरकार को घेरने की इच्छा रखने वाली मीडिया आपके सामने नई हलचल पेश करती है, क्योंकि मोदी ने उन्हें उखाड़ फेंका है और उनकी स्थिति जल बिन मछली की तरह हो गई है ।
समय की मांग है कि हम इस आदमी का समर्थन करते रहें और उस पर अपने विश्वास को अक्षुण्ण बनाए रखें | तो निश्चित जानिये कि हम नए भारत को देखेंगे - महान, बेहतर, मजबूत, भ्रष्टाचार मुक्त, शांतिपूर्ण, समृद्ध और सबसे प्रमुख – उसमें बसे बेहतर जीवन स्तर वाले लोग।

I believe it could be the birth of a new order which is not held up by the crumbling colonial pillars left behind by the Raj
but is GENUINELY Indian; a GC modern order, but ''not a slavish imitation of other modern orders”.

As Mark said, Change will be slow and painful, therefore for someone who doesn’t read and makes judgement based on perception will for quite some time not be able to see the change taking place or will pretend as if nothing is changing.
The way changes are coming in Railways, Power sector, Defense Production and in governance and at the same time accompanied by the resentment of the old forces indicate that the process of change has begun albeit slowly but
As Mark said, Change will be slow and painful, therefore for someone who doesn’t read and makes judgement based on perception will for quite some time not be able to see the change taking place or will pretend as if nothing is changing.

Let us not undermine the capabilities of this termite ridden old Banyan tree which will still try its best to stop any one growing to the extent that it may even turn the soil upside down before falling down.
For a year or so we may witness more of Dadris, more of Kanhaiyas, more of Owaisi style shouting but finally if the Society keeps its cool, acts maturely and continues to perform we will sail through and the old forces will die a natural death.

The time has come to continue to support the man and keep your faith intact and we will see new India for sure - bigger, better, stronger, corruption free , peaceful , prosperous than ever before with people having better quality of life..
